£50K IWC Filmmaker Bursary Award In Association With BFI Awarded To Daniel Kokotajlo, Writer/Director Of Apostasy

Stars from the UK’s film and television industries gathered at the BFI Luminous Gala Dinner to see the coveted IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Bursary Award in Association with the BFI awarded to Daniel Kokotajlo, writer/director of APOSTASY, one of the UK’s most exciting new filmmaking talents. At £50,000, the Bursary is one of the largest prizes for the arts in the UK, offering talent at the beginning of their career the gift of time, allowing them to grow and develop.

This year, Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper joined the judging panel, alongside Amanda Nevill, CEO of the BFI among others, to select Daniel Kokotajlo as the winner. Daniel was shortlisted alongside Rungano Nyoni writer/director of I AM NOT A WITCH and Michael Pearce writer/director of BEAST, who were also celebrated ahead of their London Film Festival debuts.

The star-studded gala was held at the London’s Guildhall, on the eve of the BFI London Film Festival. Many high-profile celebrities were in attendance with Sir Patrick Stewart, Dame Joan Collins, Sarah Ferguson Duchess of York and Tilda Swinton all walking the red carpet.

Winner of the 2017 IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Bursary Award in Association with the BFI is Daniel Kokotajlo, writer/director of APOSTASY which will screen in LFF’s First Feature Competition strand (UK Premiere) on Sunday 8 October at 6pm. Also screening on Tuesday 10 October at 3.15pm and Saturday 14 October at 12.45pm.
